Views from inside a laser plant

Our research project Safe-X offered interesting views of the inside of a laser system.

The project investigates how much X-ray radiation is emitted during laser processing with ultrashort pulse lasers. Here, the X-ray radiation generated during laser material processing of different materials with ultra-short pulses of high intensity is studied. For this purpose, our colleague Jan Rücker has installed a dosimeter by STEP Sensortechnik GmbH and a spectrometer by PNDetector GmbH in a special experimental setup in our UKP facility of Pulsar Photonics GmbH. The setup can be precisely aligned, allowing accurate measurements of radiation characteristics at various solid angles.

The project results are intended to offer industrial users greater safety in the use of ultra-short pulse laser systems.

The project is funded by the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie in the funding programm INNO-KOM.
