Reinforced spades for NABU district association Jena

At ifw Jena, stinging spades were reinforced for the NABU Kreisverband Jena, which are to be used in the clearing of non-native plant species in the region.

The members of the Jena district association of the Nature Conservation Union take care of regional nature and environmental protection on a voluntary basis. They carry out care missions and preserve nature around Jena.

One important mission is currently the clearing of the grouper, an invasive plant that grows in nature reserves around Jena and displaces native plant species. Because the grouper has no predators here, it can spread unhindered. The NABU district association in Jena is therefore digging up wild plants of this species to prevent them from spreading.

The roots of the grouper are often long and deep in the soil. The existing pricking spades at the district association could not withstand this strain and often broke off during the clearing. Therefore, the spades were reinforced with steel pieces at the ifw Jena welding course center. The reinforced tools can be used to tackle the serrated pod and preserve the region's nature reserves.
