First training course in hand-held laser welding successful in 2024

The first training course this year was successfully completed at ifw Jena. Three participants passed their welder examination in hand-held laser welding of chrome-nickel steel.

In the second week of January 2024, three participants took part in welder training in hand-held laser beam welding. Over three days, they acquired theoretical knowledge about laser technology and safety measures and honed their skills in practical exercises on the ifw Jena systems.

All participants successfully passed their written and practical welding exams.

With the welder examination, companies ensure that their welders can use hand-held laser welding safely and can also use it for welding applications in regulated areas. More and more metalworking companies see the process as an ideal complement to conventional arc processes. Thin sheets in particular can be welded more precisely with the laser beam. For long weld seams over 1.5 meters, the higher welding speed also helps to make welding applications more economical for companies.

The ifw Jena has been investigating the process for several years. The institute passes on the knowledge it has acquired to industry in training courses and seminars. In addition to welder training in hand-held laser welding, the institute also offers training for laser safety officers, which takes place twice a year at ifw Jena.
