INDUSTRY 4.0 Smart Manufacturing and Microtechnique

The research activities in the field of Industry 4.0 and microtechnology at ifw Jena focus on measurement and testing solutions for various technological processes. Our research in the sensor development area offers integral solutions including signal analysis (e.g. as used in quality monitoring of resistance spot welding processes).

Our current main research activities (are):

  • Application-oriented development of solutions for infrared (IR) sensors
  • Construction and joining techniques with laser-supported preparation of the joining surfaces
  • Development of micro bonding technologies for high temperature sensors
  • Temperature regulation during welding processes by means of  FBG sensor-based monitoring systems
  • High-precision contour detection of laser-cut metal parts by means of subpixel algorithm-based image processing
