The Günter Köhler Institute for Joining Technology and Materials Testing (ifw Jena) is a legally and economically independent non-university industrial research institution. We are a founding member of the Zuse-Gemeinschaft and carry out application-oriented research and development for manufacturing-solutions in the context of publicly funded projects and on behalf of the middle-class economy.

ifw Jena has been successfully working as a research institute for and with businesses for 25 years.

2016

10th Jenaer Laser-Conference - since 1998 the conference has been held for over 250 experts in the field of laser applications.

2015

New CEO of the ifw Jena is Dr.-Ing. Simon Jahn

2013

The first notification for the founding of the Thuringian Center for Mechanical Engineering is a significant expansion of the diffusion welding business unit at ifw Jena.

2011

First USP-system made by 3D-MICROMAC and start of research activities on ultra short-pulse lasers.

2011

First SLM-system made by SLM-Solutions and start of research activities on Selective Laser Beam Melting.

2007

Prof. Köhler retires, the institute carries is honorary name.

New CEO is Dr.-Ing. Sabine Sändig.

 

2005

ifw Jena becomes an affiliated institute of Ernst-Abbe-Hochschule Jena (EAH).

2001

The welding-training-centre moves to Löbstedter Straße in Jena.

1995

ifw jena moves into two buildings for laboratories and offices on the grounds of SCHOTT AG in Jena.

1993

Installation of the welding-training-center in Jena-Burgau.

1992

Founding of the institute by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Günter Köhler in Jena-Burgau.
