ifw Jena is currently looking for welders, welding foremen and technical staff for welding research and welder training at the institute.

Since its foundation, ifw Jena has been scientifically investigating and optimizing welding processes and passing on the knowledge gained in seminars, courses and the training of welders. To support welding research and training, we are looking for welders who want to apply and pass on their knowledge in research projects and for our customers and partners.

We are looking for

Welders (m/f/d)

Code 2025/02

As a welder, you will be employed in the welding technology course center at ifw Jena. You will demonstrate your experience in the various welding processes and pass on your knowledge to course participants in practical exercises and theoretical lessons. As part of your employment, the aim is to qualify as a DVS welding instructor.

YOUR TASKS

  • Accompanying course participants from the first registration to the successful welding examination
  • Practical demonstration and explanation of the various welding processes such as MAG, TIG, manual electric arc welding and gas welding to course participants
  • Conducting theoretical instruction in the various welding courses and vocational training courses offered by ifw Jena, e.g. as part of the training of welding supervisors
  • Maintenance, care and further development of the technical equipment
  • Ensuring compliance with house rules, occupational health and safety regulations
  • Long-term goal is further qualification as a certified DVS welding instructor

YOUR PROFILE

  • Technical vocational training and sound practical experience in welding for common processes
  • Valid welding qualifications for the MAG steel process (basic requirement) and for at least one other process (TIG, manual electric welding or gas welding)
  • Safe handling of applicable standards and guidelines
  • Enthusiasm for the welding trade and the practical demonstration of welding processes
  • Willingness to gain further qualifications as a certified DVS welding instructor is a prerequisite
  • Willingness for continuous personal, technical and didactic development, e.g. in dealing with welding simulators
  • Completed training as an international welding specialist and possession of a valid AdA certificate is desirable

Technical employees in the field of welding technology (m/f/d)

Code 2025/01

You have completed vocational training in a technical field and are looking for new challenges? As a technical employee in the field of welding, you will be responsible for the practical execution of welding tests.  At ifw Jena, you will be particularly involved in hand-held laser beam welding. In addition, you can pass on your practical skills and theoretical knowledge in the practical training of welders and the training of welding supervisors.

YOUR TASKS

  • Carrying out welding tasks in the field of laser beam welding
    • Hand-guided laser beam welding
    • Operation of classic manual welding lasers
    • Operation of laser beam welding systems
  • Determination and testing of process parameters on metallic materials
  • Structured processing of observations and results of experimental investigations
  • Preparation and execution of service orders
  • Practical training of welders in the field of hand-held laser beam welding
  • Conducting theoretical instruction on arc welding processes and hand-held laser beam welding
  • Carrying out classic arc welding (especially TIG)

YOUR PROFILE

  • Completed technical vocational training (or technical studies) in the metal sector
  • First professional experience desirable, especially with manual welding lasers
  • Willingness to participate in training and further education
  • Qualification as an international welding specialist according to DVS-IIW 1170 desirable but not a prerequisite
  • Confident handling of common MS Office applications
  • Good written and spoken English skills desirable
  • Ability to work in a team as well as an independent and careful way of working

YOUR TASKS

  • Planning and implementation of practical and theoretical welder training in adult education and inter-company apprentice training
  • Teaching the necessary welding knowledge and manual skills in accordance with DVS guidelines and other standards
  • Examination supervision during the acceptance of welder tests
  • Participation in the organization of company seminars and specialist further training, e.g. as a lecturer in training to become an international welding specialist
  • Providing expert advice to companies and participants
  • Maintenance and care as well as further development of technical equipment
  • Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety and workshop regulations
  • Assisting with the creation and adaptation of teaching materials

YOUR PROFILE

  • Technical vocational training with certification as a DVS welding instructor or DVS welding foreman in the common welding processes
  • Willingness for continuous personal, technical and didactic development, e.g. in the use of welding simulators
  • Confident handling of applicable standards and guidelines in the training sector
  • Commitment and pleasure in passing on your knowledge and experience to participants/groups
  • Confident fluency in German language (written an oral)
