In the HaLP research project – Hand-guided laser beam welding in practice – we are looking at the special requirements placed on protective gloves during manual laser welding.
During hand-held laser beam welding, the hands are particularly close to the workpiece and the laser beam. Conventional laser safety gloves do not offer sufficient UV protection here. In addition, they are not flexible enough to allow the laser beam to be guided comfortably over long periods of time.
In the project, we want to define the protective requirements for gloves for hand-held laser beam welding and play a key role in their development. Different areas of the hand are exposed to different levels of radiation. In practical tests, we want to determine the special design features of the gloves. At the same time, TITV e. V. in Greiz is working on the development of textile technology. In close cooperation with each other, the project aims to develop comfortable and safe protective gloves specifically for hand-held laser beam welding.
The project is part of the overall project “Development of innovative protective gloves for hand-guided laser beam welding, taking into account the requirements of real laser beam welding processes” and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection in the INNO-KOM program.
