Vom Praktikum bis zum Berufseinstieg – Ausbildung am ifw Jena

Ausbildung und Praktikum am ifw Jena
After leaving school, many young people are faced with the big choice of career path. At ifw Jena, we would like to support pupils in this choice by offering internships in all areas of research and training opportunities to become a materials tester or physics laboratory technician.

In 2017, after a break of several years, ifw Jena started vocational training for young people again. The institute is offering a truly exotic apprenticeship in the region with its materials testing apprenticeship: The ifw Jena is the first port of call for young people who want to become materials specialists.

Since then, ifw Jena has even trained the best materials testers in the state, thereby supporting the economy with optimally prepared specialists. Motivated by this success, the institute has also been offering training as a physics laboratory technician since 2023.

During the regular training period of 3.5 years, trainees benefit not only from the expertise of their colleagues from all areas of ifw Jena, but also from the variety of state-of-the-art testing and production methods as well as equipment and systems.

Most pupils apply for an apprenticeship or a course of study directly after their secondary school leaving certificate or A-levels - the best option is to opt for an apprenticeship or a position as a student assistant at ifw Jena.

However, not all students have a clear idea of the career path they want to take. This is where the ifw Jena offers young people the opportunity to find out their own interests and preferences as part of a student internship and to find out more about them.

The institute offers all pupils from the ninth grade (minimum age 15) the opportunity to complete a free internship. Over a period of 2 to 3 weeks, pupils can gain an authentic insight into everyday working life in the various research areas.

The staff at ifw Jena are open to applications. Young people are given the opportunity to gain practical experience in all departments and get to know the scientific work at ifw Jena.
