Characterization and In-Situ Production of High-Entropy Alloys (HEAs) for Solder Applications Using Laser Cladding
High-entropy alloys (HEAs) are a class of materials that, due to their unique microstructure resulting from the equivalent mixing of different atoms, exhibit properties that go beyond those of conventional materials. Their industrial application enables efficient and sustainable process solutions. However, the complex and expensive manufacturing of HEAs currently limits their economic viability.
The project focuses on the production of HEA coatings for soldering applications using laser cladding and cold plasma spraying. The goal is to achieve in-situ alloying by using selected base elements in approximately atomically equivalent proportions as a powder mixture. During application, these are to be transformed into a high-entropy alloy coating. The project will investigate not only the production of the coatings but also their material properties and subsequent processability in brazing processes.
