Influence on fatigue strength of additively manufactured components

As with all manufacturing processes, irregularities also occur in additive manufacturing, which must be found within the framework of quality assurance. However, no regulated rules and standards exist as to how these irregularities are to be assessed.

EDaB is based on findings from the "QuaPla" project (49MF170085), in which possible sources of error in additive manufacturing were identified and testing methods of materials testing for additively manufactured components were qualified. The aim of the EDaB project is now to determine the relationship between types of defects and their magnitude on the dynamic strength of additively manufactured components. This should make it possible to make reliable statements about the criticality of internal defects and their influence on component integrity. The results of the projects EDaB and QuaPla shall finally contribute to the development of a generally valid set of rules for quality assurance of additively manufactured components.
