Plasma processing of silicate materials
The aim of the project is to develop process knowledge and the necessary system technology to enable plasma processing of silicate materials. The interaction between the thermally acting plasma and the glass is to be investigated and different process options developed.
The investigations will focus on the hot processing of typical glasses and on the processes of cutting, joining, polishing and deposition. The aim is to achieve comprehensive process development for the above-mentioned processes, combined with high quality seams, edges and surfaces. All experimental investigations will be accompanied by materials engineering analysis and characterization methods in order to evaluate the processes, compare them with laser beam processes and thus enable process evaluation.
The investigations are intended to provide companies with plasma processing as a further tool for efficient, automatable hot processing of glass.
