Weldability of modern green steel variants using arc and hand-guided laser beam welding

Iron and steel production currently accounts for around seven percent of CO2 emissions. However, the production of climate-friendly steel variants will increasingly replace conventional steel production routes in the future. This poses new challenges for steel processing companies because environmentally friendly steel production with increased scrap addition also results in greater deviations in accompanying elements such as copper, chromium, or nickel in the steel.
The aim of the research project is to evaluate the dependence of the chemical composition on the joining result of hand-guided laser beam welding and to derive recommendations for action for modern green steel variants from these results. This should contribute to a rapid market introduction and the removal of obstacles to the new steel variants.
