Handheld laser welding in practice

The UV radiation generated during laser beam welding poses particular challenges for manufacturers of protective gloves. During hand-held laser beam welding in particular, the operator comes very close to the workpiece and the laser beam. Conventional laser safety gloves do not offer the flexibility required for hand-held laser beam welding and are not sufficiently UV-resistant.
The project aims to define the requirements for protective gloves for hand-held laser beam welding and play a key role in their development. As different areas of the hand are exposed to different levels of radiation, practical tests are being carried out to determine the special design features of the gloves. The ifw Jena is working closely with TITV e. V. in Greiz, which is carrying out the textile technology development.
The project is part of the overall project “Development of new types of protective gloves for hand-guided laser beam welding, taking into account the requirements of real laser beam welding processes”.
